Julia is an abstract expressive oil painter based in North Yorkshire, UK. Passionate about colour, with an ever evolving palette, rich textures and dynamic mark making, her work embodies dramatic, ethereal and calming tones.
Through an intuitive process Julia seeks to express unconscious emotions within, as they unfold from one moment to the next. Whether profound, fleeting or ambiguous, her aim is to express a congruent, authentic experience. Letting go of conscious thoughts and intentions and embracing the unknown is what drives this process and leads her to exciting, unexpected results. Julia’s approach is one of playfulness and curiosity, which she believes maintains a fresh and energetic feel to her work.
A sense of landscape or figures may sometimes emerge through this process, though this is left open to the imagination of the viewer, who Julia hopes will find their own emotional connection to her paintings.
Julia lives and works from her studio in North Yorkshire. She received a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art at the University of East London in 1994, following which she returned to Yorkshire and after various jobs, overseas travel and raising a family, she pursues her career as a full-time painter.
